Potential Effects of Nutraceuticals in Retinopathy of Prematurity

چکیده
Retinopathy of prematurity (ROP), the most common cause childhood blindness, is a hypoxia-induced eye disease characterized by retinal neovascularization. In normal retina, well-organized vascular network provides oxygen and nutrients as energy sources to maintain visual function; however, it disrupted when pathological angiogenesis induced in ROP patients. Under hypoxia, inadequate supply lead oxidative stress stimulate neovasculature formation well affecting function photoreceptors. order meet metabolic needs developing protection against abnormal one way manage ROP. Although current treatments provide beneficial effects reducing severity ROP, these invasive therapies may also induce life-long consequences such systemic structural functional complications neurodevelopment disruption infants. Nutritional supplements for newborns are novel concept restoring protecting vasculature better management. Nutraceuticals provided non-invasive manner without developmental side associated with treatments. These nutraceuticals have been investigated through various vitro vivo methods indicated protect vasculature. Here, we reviewed discussed how use be prevention

Does Bevacizumab Alter Vascularization Potential in Retinopathy of Prematurity?
Off-label intravitreal injection of bevacizumab, an anti-vascular endothelial growth factor agent, has been shown to be an effective treatment for type 1 retinopathy of prematurity (ROP) in zone I. One of the benefits of intravitreal bevacizumab (IVB) is continued peripheral retinal vascularization as opposed to the permanent ablation associated with laser. Still, the development of late recurr...
متن کاملeditorial: retinopathy of prematurity
it has been estimated that each year 50,000 newborns born prematurely and underweight and are candidates to have retinopathy of prematurity (rop) .1 in the developing countries where we see most of the blind children, rop is accused to be one of the essential causes of blindness.2 rop and its consequences (impaired vision and blindness) could be prevented in most cases by an early ocular examin...
متن کاملRetinopathy of Prematurity
The incidence of ROP varies with birth weight but it has been reported to be approximately 50-70% in infants whose weight is less than 1250g at birth. The more premature the infant, the more likely ROP is to develop [1]. Furthermore, an observational study from United Kingdom found that the birth weight of infants from highly developed countries was 737-763g compared with 903-1527g in less-deve...
متن کاملClassifying retinopathy of prematurity
It is important to classify retinopathy of prematurity (ROP) in each eye, at each screening session. Doing so makes it possible to screen babies consistently and to make decisions about whether further screening is required and when, or whether laser treatment or surgical management is needed. The International Committee for the Classification of ROP1 has classified it using the following crite...
